For this project we were asked to collect flowers and leaves and build on our portfolio of drawings. It’s a self directed drawing exercise and while there were some things I wanted to try, I really wanted to get to grips with a couple of things I felt I’d struggled with in earlier projects.

Drawing to me has always been pencil/pen/brush on paper or card. But on Wikipedia it’s defined more broadly as instruments marking a 2D surface.

So I decided not to use colour yet and not to draw with stitch. I know these elements will be on their way at some point but I wanted to focus on playing with scale and being more experimental.

To that end I picked a small selection of foliage from the garden. To start off I did two sketches of the selection and then tried to find other ways to mark a 2D surface while trying to upscale some drawings at the same time.
