Recent Work

Apologies. I’m going to splice together my last two degree assignments into one post. I’m keen to get started on my next assignment but I seem Incapable of moving to Part Five without acknowledging Parts Three and Four. This first module has been exhausting. Getting used to studying again and time management have been big issues for me. Every assignment has seen at least one Emmy worthy meltdown! I’ve started the “I can’t continue with this course…” email on three separate occasions.

I am really excited to start Part Five though. It’s a small collection of pieces that will pull together things we’ve learned over the previous parts.

So, briefly, Part Three saw the creation of a colour book. I decided to keep it simple and mount the work on thick paper and lace it together. The book was made up of colour studies in various mediums – gouache, yarn wraps, watercolour, and collage. I hated it. Now I know that I need to use these types of studies as prep for our work in Part Five, I can see the value in them.

In Part Four we had to create experimental yarns, this was much more fun. I came out of my creative shell a little bit and really played around with some new techniques and materials. I managed to crochet for the first time ever and also learned how to do Nalbinding. This assignment did me a lot of good (not had my feedback yet though, so….) I experimented a bit but I also left it too late to get started (again!) and ended up packing a lot into my last week. Bad time management. However the last couple of weeks did make me get into the habit of clearing up after dinner and getting down to some work before a bit of Netflix before bed. This is where my love of U.S. sit-coms comes in handy! Short doses of funny after work has been a God send. I’m on season three of Community at the moment and recommendations are most welcome!

Anyway, below are pictures of yarns I made over Part Four and I can’t wait to get properly stuck in to Part Five!

Lainey x
