About
I set up this blog in 2021 up to record my work and processes for my degree in Textiles that I started in 2021 with the OCA. However, after a year of study I felt it wasn’t for me, I found I was struggling too much with time and money to continue. I’ve decided to keep the blog on for fun. I’ll be posting about general creativity, inspirations, and my own personal projects.
I studied Fine Bookbinding and Paper Conservation at Guildford Tech in the late eighties with Maureen Duke and Maggie Chandler. I did some work experience at Sotheby’s, spent a year at Peartree Bindery in Derby working on books for Derbyshire County Council and was lucky enough to work on books donated by The Duke of Devonshire from Chatsworth. Then I went on to work at Derry’s Paper Conservation in Nottingham, our main contract was with the British Library.
Over the years I’ve dabbled in many arts and crafts and I’m now trying to put together everything I love doing into creating artists books and journaling.
“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery – celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from – it’s where you take them to.”
